Who won’t break their spirit, dim their light, or try to enforce one way of learning.
Who are knowledgeable about neurodiversity, autism, ADHD, and other disabilities— but know that even within those subcategories, there are a vast variety of learning styles and personalities! There is not a one-size-fits-all approach.
You need someone who is experienced in ADAPTING their teaching style: not only to every unique student, but to every unique day and moment. Because mood, preferences, needs, regulation— all of it changes day by day, minute by minute.
Every child deserves music lessons.
But unfortunately, society does not equip every educator with the tools to teach every child.
That’s where we come in.
Our music instructors are also board-certified music therapists. They have extensive training and experience in tailoring their lessons to help your child engage in a way that’s right for them, reaping all of the social/emotional and brain benefits that music lessons provide.
Wellness Creative is a company owned by a mom and run by moms, some of whom have their own children with IEP’s, diagnosed disabilities, mental health challenges, and learning disorders. We have had to fiercely advocate for our own kids, and connect deeply with the search that parents/caregivers go through to find activities that are worth the investment of time/energy/driving/money.
Do students need a diagnosis?
They can have a diagnosis, but it is not required! Any child, teen, or adult who would benefit from an adapted approach is welcome! We assess the following to tailor our lessons for each student:
- Auditory sensitivity (volume tolerance, sound preferences)
- Tactile sensitivity (comfort with textures and instruments)
- Visual processing needs (lighting, large print, color coding)
- Sensory-seeking or avoiding behaviors (needs movement or calming input)
- Gross motor skills (sitting, standing, reaching, movement)
- Fine motor skills (finger dexterity for instruments)
- Use of mobility aids (wheelchair, walker, orthotics etc) and how they impact positioning or access to instruments
- Bilateral coordination
- Motor planning (ability to imitate and sequence actions)
- Attention span
- Comprehension of directions (1-step, 2-step, etc.)
- Learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic)
- Verbal communication
- Nonverbal communication (gestures, visuals, AAC use)
- Receptive language (understanding instructions and cues)
- Frustration tolerance (response to challenges or mistakes)
- Self-regulation tools needed (fidgets, breaks, calming strategies)
- Musical preferences (favorite songs, genres, artists)
- Parental/caregiver goals and expectations
